SPRINGDALE, Ark. — The Har-Ber baseball team is trying to make some history by going back-to-back in state title games.
"It's something that hasn't happened here," said senior pitcher Ross Felder. "It'd be really fun. I really want to make sure that this is seen as like this year is just as important as last year."
During the state tournament, Felder did something that he hasn't done in his four years as a Wildcat: making two starts within a week.
"We always give him six days between starts," said head coach Dustin Helmkamp. "On 35 pitches on Thursday, we thought it's game three he can give us 80% so we rolled the dice with a little bit. We got exactly what we thought. Maybe not Ross at a 100% but somebody was gonna compete."
During the tournament, in 6.1 innings Felder punched out nine and at leadoff he went 5-of-11 with three RBI's.
"I was just trying to go out there for my team," said Felder. "That was the big thing to get on base for the team get things started."
Getting things started is what Felder has focused on this season in the leadership role as well.
"I think the biggest thing for him is how he goes about his daily business," said Helmkamp. "Everybody comes shows up on a game day, he shows up on the other days."
Now he is trying to finish things off by leading his team to a state title and into the history books.
"I'm really excited for it," said Felder. "There's some nerves but nothing too crazy. It's kind of the same preparations and just getting everybody ready. It's gonna be a big team effort. So hopefully we can we can get it done."
Har-Ber faces off against Rogers Friday at 1 p.m. at the University of Central Arkansas.
