LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Booneville Bearcats are once again state champions.
After making it to the 3A state title game last year and losing to Charleston 41-12, the Bearcats found redemption on Satureday, Dec. 9, with a 25-22 win over Prescott.
It was no secret what Booneville wanted to do in the game, run the ball and the composer of the ground attack, senior running back Dax Goff.
Goff, the all-time leading rusher in Booneville history ran wild on the day with 245 yards and three touchdowns. A fourth score was added by quarterback Jace Washburn on a quarterback sneak.
Despite the success on the ground and the domination of the time of possession, the Bearcats still found themselves in a close game late as the Curley Wolves made it a 25-22 game with about three minutes left on the clock.
However as they had done all season, when the Bearcats needed a play, they turned to Goff and as always, he delivered.
On fourth and one with under two minutes to go and Prescott out of timeouts, a first down would seal the win and that is exactly what Goff got them.
For his efforts, the senior would be named the game MVP, ending his career on top and giving Booneville the title of state champion for the fifth time in program history.
