LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The weekend all high school athletes dream of finally arrived, State Championship weekend and four 5Country teams were vying to leave Little Rock as champions: Bentonville, Fayetteville, Greenwood and Shiloh.
The Greenwood Bulldogs were first to take the field on Friday night as they faced Little Rock Christian Academy in the 6A title game. This meeting went similar to their showdown earlier in the season, as the Bulldogs flexed their superior offensive firepower, led by highly touted recruit Kane Archer, to pull of the 41-23 win.
Next to the field, on Saturday morning was another rematch, this one of The Rivalry. Bentonville faced Fayetteville for the 7A crown and again this one played out much like the first meeting. While more competitive this time around, the Purple Dogs were able to best the Tigers 22-16, knocking down a last second Hail Mary attempt to seal the win. The victory marks the first time Fayetteville has finished a season undefeated.
The final game featuring a 5Country team took place Saturday night as Shiloh squared off against the undefeated Parkview Patriots. The Saints gave it their all, but after falling into a hole early, they were just never able to get themselves out. Their season would come to a close with a 55-12 defeat.
