Fayetteville returns home with 7A Championship title

The Bulldogs concluded their undefeated season as state champions.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Fayetteville took the title of 7A State Champions today, Dec. 2, after beating Bentonville22-16, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. 

Bentonville and Fayetteville faced off in the State Championship game for the first time since 2014 when Bentonville won 24-21.

The two have played 11 times since the 2014 championship. The Tigers hold the edge 7-4 in that time, but Fayetteville is 2-0 in elimination games.

The two played earlier in the season in week seven, a game that the Bulldogs won 42-21. This helped propel Fayetteville to a perfect regular season, 12-0.

The championship win is the first perfect season for the Bulldogs since playoffs were implemented. Their last perfect season was in 1952.

Fayetteville was led by highly-touted recruit Drake Lindsey who threw 3561 yards this season, 51 touchdowns, and was averaging 45 points per game.

Lindsey would take home the MVP of the game after passing for 358 yards and a touchdown. Lindsey gave all the credit to his defense after the game.

Bentonville, the underdogs, came in with a record of 9-3 this season, averaging nearly 47 points per game.
