Greenwood football team looking to become back-to-back 6A state champions

The Bulldogs, led by junior QB Kane Archer, will try to defend their 2023 state title this season with a lot of returning production on both sides of the ball.

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Greenwood Bulldogs are coming off of a 2023 6A State Championship, but that is now in the back of their mind as they have a new goal ahead: repeating.

With their starting quarterback junior Kane Archer back on the team, many believe they have what it takes to pull it off. Head Coach Chris Young believes in order to repeat, you have to put last year's win behind you.

"Last year was a special year, obviously with winning the state championship, a lot of good times, good memories, but we've put that in the past. I think that's really important. Our programs learn to do that. Enjoy, remember the great times in the past, but really focus on the future. So we've had a great camp. We're focused on our scrimmage with Fayetteville right now, and that's all we're worried about," Young said.

However, with the title as state champions, that means every team on their schedule will have the Greenwood game circled on their calendar. Archer knows that with that being the case, he and his teammates will have to bring their very best each and every week.

"Every time we play somebody, they're gonna they're gonna have our name circled. So we got to come out here with the with the mindset that is, prepare every week, no matter who we play. If it's the worst team the conference, the best team in the conference, we just got to prepare the same every week," Archer said.

The Bulldogs will have a scrimmage against the defending 7A State Champions on Aug. 20, then will get their season going on Friday, Aug. 30, on the road against Bentonville West.
