Booneville Bearcats looking to go back-to-back as 3A state champions

Despite losing the program's all-time leading rusher, the Bearcats believe they can return to the pinnacle of 3A high school football

BOONEVILLE, Ark. — The Booneville Bearcats are looking to try and stay atop the 3A throne this season, however they will have to do it without one of the greatest players to put on the helmet and shoulder pads in Booneville.

Dax Goff graduated last year as the program as the all-time leading rusher, which means head coach Doc Crowley faces the tall task of figuring out how to replace him. Not making matters any easier is the fact they will also be without Rylen Ray who played a huge role on offense as well.

However with quarterback Jace Washburn back, Crowley believes this team still has enough experience to get back to War Memorial Stadium in December to contend for a title, despite being circled on every opponents calendar.

"We got a lot of guys that know what it takes to get there obviously," said Crowley.

"They know what it's like to get embarrassed there, they know what it takes to win there. So, we got a good group of core guys back and they understand the target on their back every week and they work harder than they ever have to get back to Little Rock it's going to be a tough task, but I feel like we've got the guys to do it."

The Bearcats will begin their season against the Poteau Pirates August 30.
