FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 12 Arkansas gymnastics (4-2-1) set a new program record Friday night against Nebraska with the help of freshman Hailey Klein setting a program record of her own.
On vault, Klein stuck the landing and scored a 9.975. This set a new freshman record on vault within the Arkansas gymnastics program.
Head coach Jordyn Wieber said that the freshman has been one of the hardest working athletes in the gym.
"Hailey sticking her vault, that's something that she's been working so hard on," said Wieber. "When doing a Yurchenko 1.5 we don't tell them to try to stick because it's one of those vaults that you want to make sure you land well."
Vault is not the only event that Klein has been excelling in.
Wieber has noticed Klein gaining confidence on her floor and beam routines as well.
"We've talked for so many weeks especially on floor she was kind of in that 9.850, 9.875 just continuing to get those same scores.," said Wieber. "I said 'Ok, do you want to get a 9.900?' She said 'Yeah!'"
Klein has scored a 9.900 on floor in the last two meets of the regular season.
Klein and the rest of the Gymbacks will compete in SEC championship meet Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in New Orleans, LA. The meet will be on the SEC Network.
