FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's hard to picture a better ending for the three Gymback seniors than Friday night's regular season finale against Nebraska at Bud Walton.
In their final meet on the Hill, that doesn't take place in the postseason, Emma Kelley, Sirena Linton and Jensen Scalzo were all a part of a multiple record setting outing.
The incredible night began from the first event, in which freshman Hailey Klein tied the program record on vault with a 9.975, which also the highest score by a freshman in that event.
Her trip into the record books would pave the way for a record breaking performance overall in the vault, as the team would go on to post a Razorback best 49.55 in the vault.
That was followed by a new season high on the bars for the Gymbacks a 49.525. A feat that was anchored by another 9.975, this time from Reese Drotar who also set a new career high with the mark.
Arkansas would also set another program record on the floor with a 49.725. In fact the only event that didn't rewrite the history books was beam, but even that yielded an impressive 49.3.
However the most magical moment for this team and especially the seniors, wasn't revealed until after the final event.
As when the dust settled, they had not only, for the third time this season, set a new program high score, but it was the first 198 in Arkansas gymnastics history.
The record setting performance was made all the sweeter with a meet win 198.100 to 197.375. Which also made history as it was the first time the Razorbacks had beaten the Cornhuskers at home.
Arkansas will now head to the SEC championship in New Orleans on Saturday, March 23.
