Lacrosse Rapidly Growing Across NWA

The NWA Lacrosse Club has grown into one of the largest youth lacrosse programs in the state.

The NWA Lacrosse club hosted a 23 team tournament known as LAX Fest at Foerster Park in Rogers on Saturday and Sunday.  Boys and Girls ranging from 3rd grade to Varsity competed in the two day tournament.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country.  The NWA Lacrosse Club is part of that rapid growth.

"We started six years ago," said Team Director Terry Shepard.  "We started with 35 kids in the club and now we have over 250 kids playing."

Lacrosse is an extremely face paced and physical sport.  It's concepts are a mix of basketball, soccer and hockey.   All of these factors are a main reason the sport attracts young athletes.

"It's fast," said 8th grader Parker Evans.  "Other sports there are lots of time outs and stopping and sitting in one spot of the field, but lacrosse it's up and down the field you get to do something every second of the game.  It's just a great time."

Last year two kids from the NWA Lacrosse Club received college scholarships to play lacrosse at the next level.

"It's something that we are very proud of," said Shepard.  "It's something that gives our kids a great opportunity outside the traditional football, basketball and baseball sports."
