ARKANSAS, USA — As expected, former Arkansas ace Hagen Smith is headed to the major leagues after he heard his name called early in the first round of tonight's MLB draft.
After being projected as a top ten pick this offseason, Smith lived by to the billing by being selected fifth overall by the Chicago White Sox.
As for what the White Sox are getting in the unanimous All-American, National Pitcher of the Year, is someone who will be major league ready almost immediately. Smith boasts a full arsenal of pitches that helped him set numerous records at Arkansas including most strikeouts in a season and career.
However, he wasn't just great by Arkansas standards. Smith ranked fourth in the country in ERA (2.04), first in the country in hits allowed per nine innings (4.39), and second in strikeouts (161).
