FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorback's women's basketball team faced and overcame plenty of adversity early against Mississippi State on Thursday, however they were unable to revive the magic one final time in the end.

The Bulldogs started the game on a 10-0 run that saw Arkansas transfer Erynn Barnum net her four points of the evening, in her return to Fayetteville, after having previously spent five years with the program.

Arkansas put together a run of their own though closing the gap to one 14-13 with a Saylor Poffenbarger three.

However as the second quarter began, so too did the Bulldog's offensive onslaught. They would open the second frame on an 11-0 run that easily could have cause the Razorbacks to fold.

But again they responded.

It was a much more slow and deliberate march this time that took until the third quarter to really show the fruits of their labor.

With about three minutes left in the third frame Carly Keats and Samara Spencer would hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 45.

From there it was a battle into the fourth quarter and one that Arkansas took the upper hand in momentarily. With under three minutes to go the team's leading scorer Maryam Dauda (17) nailed a jumper from inside the paint to give Arkansas the lead 61-59.

However the one problem the Razorbacks couldn't figure out on the evening was Jessika Carter who finished with 22 points. Carter would draw a critical and one call just seconds after Arkansas took the lead, hitting the free throw and locking in the final lead change of the game.

The Razorbacks fall to 1-2 in conference play and will now travel to Alabama to face the Crimson Tide January 14 at 3 P.M.
