The deadly crash happened in the 3300 block of the Kinkead and Melrose intersection.

FORT SMITH, Ark — A Fort Smith man is dead after being struck by a Prius while crossing Kinkead Ave. Monday, Nov. 15, night.

60-year-old Jose Luis Garcia has been identified by Arkansas State Police as the man killed.

The driver of the Prius that struck Garcia told responding officers that they were traveling east on Kinkead Ave. at the intersection of Melrose Ave. The driver said that due to oncoming headlights, they could not see Garcia in the roadway.

This is the third pedestrian-involved vehicular accident in the Fort Smith area since last week, including a 13-year-old boy

A representative with the City of Fort Smith has told 5NEWS they are looking into hiring a mobility coordinator who will work with public safety officials and are surveying areas around the city where they need to add street lights.
