Multiple crashes slow traffic on I-49 in Washington County

A tractor-trailer was involved in a crash in the southbound lanes of I-49 near Winslow, bringing traffic to a stall.

WINSLOW, Ark. — As rain makes its way into our area, multiple crashes have been reported on Interstate 49 in Washington County Monday, Jan. 2. 

One crash that is slowing all southbound traffic is just south of Devils Den Road near Winslow on I-49. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is reporting that a tractor-trailer was involved in this crash. 

ARDOT is reporting at least one injury in the first crash at this time. Details about the extent of the injuries and those involved have not been released. 

A second crash is being reported in the northbound lanes of I-49 just outside of the Bobby Hopper Tunnel. 

No injuries have been reported in the second crash at this time. Drivers should use caution in this area. 

A strong storm system is scheduled to sweep through our region Monday. There is a chance for some severe storms, especially around the I-40 corridor south into the Quachitas. The window for storms is a large one lasting from 1 p.m. to as late as midnight.

Make sure you have ways to receive weather alerts and stay weather aware throughout the day. Besides heavy downpours and frequent lightning, Monday's storms will be capable of producing damaging hail, wind gusts, and a few tornadoes. Rainfall totals will likely range from a .50 inch to 1.50 inches, with some locally higher amounts.

The storm system will clear out overnight, with an overall drier and cooler pattern through the rest of the workweek.
