BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — While XNA crews were able to clear the runways quickly after Jan. 12's winter weather, many travelers experienced serious delays.
The airport shared a status update on social media saying certain flights out of Northwest Arkansas were experiencing delays, lasting 30 minutes on average.
XNA said any other delays or cancellations on Jan. 12 were related to challenges faced by airlines and their ground crews or inclement weather at connecting hubs.
5NEWS spoke with travelers who had places to be, like Cristi Beaumont and Ella Snively, who were headed to a gymnastics event in California.
“Our flight was supposed to be at 12:26, and then it switched to 2:00 and then 2:20, but American [Airlines] was super nice because we were not going to make our connection, and they switched us to a direct flight. We just have to hang out at the airport a little longer,” Beaumont said.
Another traveler, Sidharthan Kavitha Madhavan, had days of traveling ahead, as he needed to be in India on Sunday.
“My first flight to Dallas got delayed which made me unable to catch my next subsequent flight to Qatar,” Kavitha Madhavan said. “They were really helpful. They put me on an earlier flight to Dallas.”
XNA suggests travelers flying during winter weather check the status of their flights with their respective airlines.
