ARKANSAS, USA — Fayetteville:
Drake Field hit 20 below this morning! This sets a new record not only for the day but also the coldest temperature ever reported at that weather station. Those records date back to 1905. The National Weather Service will go into a verification process to confirm that record.
There is anther weather observation site at the University of Arkansas that dates back to the 1800's that has a record temperature of 24 below zero in 1899.
Fort Smith:
The River Valley also saw records fall this morning. Low temperatures have so far hit 6 degrees below zero in Fort Smith. That breaks the old daily record low temperature of 10 degrees. It also puts this morning in the top 5 coldest ever.
