BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — The Benton County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) and the Benton County Division of Public Safety held a press conference in Bentonville to address storm damage from overnight tornadoes in the area.
The City of Bentonville hosted a press conference soon after.
Local leaders confirmed that one person is dead and multiple others were injured. No other information on the victims or their conditions was released.
Authorities said they expect the number of injured to increase and have been working with the Red Cross.
An emergency disaster declaration has been made on a county level, and contact has been made with Little Rock to upgrade that to a state level. Officials said they have been in touch with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, but there is no word yet on disaster declaration on a federal level.
Based on the first assessment, Decatur and the Rocky Branch area have been determined to be the hardest hit. Now that there is daylight, officials are still working to get to more areas and assess.
