ROGERS, Ark. — Many people in Northwest Arkansas are dealing with the aftermath of yesterday’s storms. Residents in a Rogers neighborhood are now cleaning up after a downpour caused significant flooding.
Maria Albarec and Deanna Brace live along South E Street and New Hope Road. They say water trickled into their houses, causing water damage because of a sewer drain nearby.
Albarec has been living in her home for six years. She was asleep when the flooding started.
“When I woke up in the morning, there was water everywhere," she said. "I don’t know what happened. I said, "Where’s it coming from?"
She and neighbor Deanna Brace say the drains were stopped up, causing the water to release in their homes.
“Everything’s flooded, you know, all my stuff is getting ruined,” Brace said.
The two are now throwing out their carpet that was damaged by water.
Albarec spent the majority of yesterday cleaning up the mess.
“5 hours,” that’s how long Albarec said the cleanup took her yesterday. “Five hours to clean it out and use the vacuum.”
The storms came as fast as they left, but not without leaving a lasting impact. The neighbors not only have to worry about their homes but possible medical expenses as well.
“I’ve been sleeping here, but it’s probably gonna make me sick,” Brace said. “I can’t afford to get sick, and I’m afraid all of his water damage is probably going to make me sick."
The two women did mention that the majority of their house was flooded with ankle-deep water and are working with their landlords to get new tile floors in their homes soon.
