Authorities in Mena say there is 'significant damage' left behind after flood waters tore through Polk County Thursday (May 8th).

"They came in and rescued me out of here," Aubrey Floyd said. "I can't walk because I only have one leg."

Mena Police told 5NEWS that they worked more than 40 swift water rescues as the rain poured down. Authorities say they were able to rescue all of the stranded drivers and get them to safety, without any major injuries.

"He had to have his leg amputated back in September of last year," said Floyd's granddaughter Erica Smudley.  "So he is in a wheel chair. He cannot walk."

An estimated six inches of rain fell in the area in just a matter of hours, which prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Warning and declare a Flash Flood Emergency for the City of Mena. The warnings have expired as of Friday morning (May 9th), but now people are left to pick up the debris left behind.

Authorities say they have shut down several roads in Polk County due to the damage. A number of bridges and streets have washed out, according to authorities.

Mena Police are warning that drivers be extremely careful if they're out on the roads today.
