Summer heat returns | What should you expect?

Heat is building back in, and heat index values are getting back into the triple-digits. Relief is on the way by the end of the weekend with another cold front.

ARKANSAS, USA — Summer is fighting to hold on as we are entering the last week of the season. To end the week and into this upcoming weekend, high temperatures are climbing into the mid-to-upper 90s. Humidity is also climbing, which is going to force the heat index or what it feels like outside back into the triple-digits for some.

Thursday is when you'll really notice a difference outside with highs climbing into the low-to-mid 90s and heat index values anywhere between 90 and 100 degrees. Dew point values are increasing into the low 70s, which is a tropical level of humidity.

This Friday is going to be the hottest day this week with heat index values anywhere between 95 and 105 degrees. I think we avoid any heat advisories this week, but if we were to get some issues it would be on Friday. Those who work outside or who have student-athletes playing football this Friday night, need to start hydrating. This heat can sneak up on you, as we haven't seen this level of heat in a few weeks.

As we get into the weekend, some low rain chances come back into the forecast. Right now, it doesn't look like the heat breaks on Saturday as temperatures are expected to feel like we're still in the upper-90s and triple-digits.

Sunday looks more promising as temperatures slowly start to cool off as the cold front approaches. A scattered shower or two will be possible throughout the weekend, and isolated thunderstorms can't be ruled out.

Monday is when the cooler air finally arrives. That cold front will sweep through, allowing cooler air to sink to the surface. Temperatures should be about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than what we are expecting this Friday.

Sunday is the first day of Fall! So, consider this stretch of heat as summer's last stand.
