Summer heat returns | What to expect?

After an amazing weekend, the summer heat is already back. Highs reaching up into the upper-90s and heat index values well into the triple-digits.

ARKANSAS, USA — The nice weather that we had this weekend is already gone, as summer heat returns in a very annoying way. After a gloomy end to the weekend and start to the week, sunshine is breaking out and the temperature is climbing.

Heat advisories have already been issued across the River Valley for Tuesday afternoon. Heat index values are expected to be anywhere from 105 to 110 degrees. Northwest Arkansas should have feels-like temperatures anywhere from 98 to 105 through the week.

The heat dome that flattened over the weekend to allow a cold front to sneak in, is now shifting back to the east. Warm moist air is going to filter in from the gulf, boosting our dew point values. With higher dew point values, it's going to feel a lot more uncomfortable until the next cold front arrives.

Low rain chances appear in the forecast over the next several days, but it'll provide little to no relief from the heat. Spotty showers will be available almost every day this week but don't expect anything in the way of widespread rain. The 5NEWS Weather Team only has a 10% to 20% chance of a pop-up shower.

Heat alerts should be expected throughout most of this upcoming week as little to no relief is expected within the next 10 days. Our next cold front arrives Friday, but models suggest that it'll bring little to no relief going into the weekend. Heat index values don't look to get any higher than the 110 mark through the weekend, so an "excessive heat warning" is unlikely.
