Northwest Arkansas nurses heading to help with Helene recovery effort

At least nine nurses from Mercy are heading out to help medical staff in affected areas.

ROGERS, Ark. — Nurses from Northwest Arkansas are heading to North Carolina to help with recovery in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

At least nine nurses from Mercy are heading out to help medical staff in affected areas.

The nurses will be helping with things like getting patients access to prescriptions they need and addressing minor injuries.

Brooke Harp, the Manager of Patient Care Services at Mercy, is one of the nurses heading out on Oct. 9. She told 5NEWS that after seeing all the devastation from Helene, she knew she had to do something.

"I was just thinking, going through the tornado ourselves here not too long ago, you know, you can relate to these hurricane victims having their homes destroyed and nothing left. They need people, they need people to help them, and I was thinking I wish I could help what can I do to help," Harp said.

Harp and the rest of the nurses helping in recovery will stay in North Carolina until at least Oct. 19.
