Ambulance stuck in ice freed by Arkansas National Guard team

The team also helped make contact with "countless others through health and welfare checks," Capt. Pang said.

ARKANSAS, USA — An Arkansas National Guard team dug out an ambulance while helping state police in Northwest Arkansas as icy weather bears down across the area.

On Monday, after overnight sleet and ice blanketed NWA and The River Valley, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders activated National Guard teams to help Arkansas State Police teams in Fort Smith and Lowell.

In a report from Capt. Andrew Pang, the team with an ASP troop in NWA has assisted ten motorists, which included digging out an ambulance near the Arkansas-Missouri border and getting it back on the road.

The team also helped make contact with "countless others through health and welfare checks," Capt. Pang said.

Freezing rain has caused city, county and interstates across Northwest Arkansas and parts of the River Valley to be covered in ice and according to the forecast, won't be letting up before Thursday.

A batch of freezing drizzle produced a glaze of ice early Monday and continues into Tuesday. Click here for live updates and up-to-date forecasts in your area.
