FARMINGTON, Arkansas — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the activation of a program specifically aimed at helping self-employed survivors of the May 26 storms get back on their feet in Arkansas.
Farmers, ranch hands, artists, musicians, and mechanics are listed as possible self-employment jobs that could benefit from reimbursement following the storms that killed four and destroyed countless homes across Benton County.
On July 17, FEMA announced that residents can apply for assistance replacing tools or equipment "required for self-employment, but not provided by an employer."
FEMA gave the following examples of tools they may be able to help replace:
- Computers
- Power tools
- Art materials
- Musical instruments
- Tractors or other utility vehicles
- Lawnmowers
- Ladders
- Uniforms
FEMA says self-employed applicants may be able to get money back for these items if they were damaged by the storm.
The following documents are required to be eligible for assistance:
- Documents proving you are self-employed, such as a tax return
- Insurance documents
- Itemized receipts or estimates for repairing or replacing the requested items
- A written statement that the item is needed for the self-employment
