Prairie Grove School District delays start time due to power outages caused by severe storms

PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. — Severe storms caused widespread power outages in Prairie Grove on Thursday, Oct. 31. 

As of 6:15 a.m., 1,955 people were without power in Washington County, according to the Power Outage U.S. website.

The school district announced a late start due to this issue, moving the class start time to 10 a.m. School buses will also not run until power is restored, and they plan to open campus doors at 9:30 a.m. for parent drop-off.

Mayor Faulk said utility crews were still working to restore power and that more damage could be better assessed in daylight. He also added that city crews would be out in the morning to help with debris cleanup.

Superintendent Dr. Lance Campbell said if there is the power is still not restored closer to 9 a.m., they may have to cancel school. As of now, the district was advised that the estimated restoration time is "prior to 9 a.m."
