Storms in the River Valley knock down trees, leave over a thousand without power

As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, thousands of customers in Sebastian County are without power.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The National Weather Service reported thunderstorm damage when strong winds downed power lines in Sebastian County on Tuesday.

NWS said at around 12:30 p.m. strong thunderstorms would impact portions of Franklin, Crawford, and Sebastian counties until 1 p.m.

Wind gusts were estimated to be between 50 and 55 mph.

According to the Fort Smith Police Department, traffic delays were reported on Hendricks Boulevard on U Street and Rogers Avenue due to downed trees and power lines.

Power outage reports say 1,380 customers were affected by damaged power lines in Sebastian County.

At 1 p.m. Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company reported 1,316 customers being impacted by outages in Sebastian County. Power for OG&E customers is estimated to be restored by 4 p.m.
