DECATUR, Arkansas — Senator Tom Cotton is in Benton County touring tornado-damaged areas of Rogers and Decatur, after tornadoes killed at least four people, injured others, damaged countless homes, and knocked out power for tens of thousands of people on May 26.
According to a spokesperson for Senator Cotton, he will "address ongoing assistance efforts" during two speeches, one in Rogers at 11 a.m., and one in Decatur at 1:30 p.m.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders authorized members of the Arkansas National Guard to help during this time of need, as assessments of the damage continue.
According to officials, the guardsmen will be helping with traffic control and flagging for utility work, among other needs in the city.
The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed at least seven tornadoes hit Benton County on Sunday, May 26 — two in Decatur, two in Centerton, one tornado in Rogers, one in War Eagle, and one in Clifty, which crossed over into Madison County. That number is expected to rise.
