Snow in Arkansas on Super Bowl Sunday?

While watching the 49ers take on the Chiefs, some of us across Arkansas and Oklahoma may see some snowflakes.

ARKANSAS, USA — While watching the Super Bowl this Sunday, we may also watch rain change over to some snow across Arkansas and Oklahoma.

On Feb. 11, nearly everyone across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas will have rain with chances for switching from rain to snow, but not necessarily accumulations. However, in some spots, we may see the snow try to stick, especially the farther north and west you live.

Track the incoming snow HERE.

Everyone starts with rain, but some of our area may end with some snow late Sunday night and Monday morning.

The best chance for accumulations will be in northern Oklahoma and the mountains of Arkansas. In some places, we could see an inch or two.

Right now the surface low is trending to move right over Fort Smith, which gives western Arkansas the best snow chance.

If it moves farther north, the snow will stay farther north.

If it moves farther south, we may not have enough moisture to make snow, other than some flurries.

Once we cool off Sunday night into Monday morning, we’ll start to see a rain/snow line. A shift of 30 miles of this line would drastically change what we get.

Timing of snow

Sunday night

Because there is not a ton of cold air in this storm, the snow chances will need to hit more at night (after midnight) when the air is colder anyway. If the cold air doesn’t hit right during the night, it may be too warm for snow.

Monday morning

A light accumulation of snow is possible up to one inch on Monday morning. Snow chances Monday morning depend on how quickly we can cool off plus how much moisture we have left. Warm ground temperatures will keep impacts short, but there will be a chance roads will be slushy for the morning commute.
