LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. — On June 25, severe storms rolled through several parts of Central Arkansas, causing extensive damage in some areas.
The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office confirmed that two people were killed on Sunday night after a tree fell on a home in Carlisle.
The incident happened on Willard D. Lewis Street, and according to officials, a third person was also hurt.
Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley was one of the first on the scene.
"This is the first one in many years we've had that was just horrific. It's just tough," Staley said.
Neighbors across the street explained that while they didn't know the family personally, they were always friendly. Louise Grayson said it was hard to see this happen.
"I just don't know really how I feel, like, it's just shocking," she added.
Grayson explained that the man who survived came across the street, asking for help after the storms moved through.
"I asked him, I said, 'what's wrong,' I couldn't understand him, 'what's wrong?'" she said. "So finally, he got himself together, he said, a tree has fell on my trailer and my wife and son is in there.'"
According to our THV11 meteorologists, there were winds upwards of 60mph or more and severe lightning in some areas.
There were several reports of downed trees in streets, large hail, and even vehicles flipped over. Additionally, thousands of Arkansans reported power outages across the state, which crews have been actively working to restore.
