Winter Storm Watch Issued:
A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for LeFlore, Latimer, and Pushamtaha counties from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning for the potential of significant ice accumulations. SE Oklahoma will stand the best chance of seeing significant impacts out of this event. This will include the threat for sporadic power outages and hazardous travel, especially in the higher terrain.
Winter Weather Advisory Expanded:
Elsewhere across the region, a Winter Weather Advisory continues through Wednesday with the potential for light freezing rain and freezing drizzle. While ice amounts are expected to be lower across NW Arkansas and the River Valley, temperatures below freezing will allow for icy roads to develop from Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Ice Totals:
Ice totals are expected to generally range from a trace up to 0.10" in NW Arkansas and the River Valley. More significant totals of up to 0.25" will be possible in SE Oklahoma.
For reference, 0.25" of ice accretion is considered an ice storm.
Timing:
Expect freezing drizzle to begin tonight area wide, with the most widespread activity during the day Wednesday before ending on Thursday morning.
