SEQUOYAH COUNTY (KFSM) — A man accused of committing conspiracy in an accident that severely injured a teenager in February 2014 turned himself in on Tuesday (May 10).

An arrest warrant had been issued for Joey Gray, 19, in January 2016 on one count of conspiracy, a felony charge.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Gray was present during the accident on September 1, 2013, in which Christian Mayberry suffered extreme injuries, after flying 12 feet off his Polaris ATV.

Angela Gray, who the affidavit states is Joey Gray’s mother, was arrested in August 2014 and later went to trial after being charged with leaving scene of an accident.

The affidavit stated that Joey Gray had planned to take the blame of the accident for his mother. Along with Kyle Brannon, both Angela and Joey Gray were said to have been drinking during the time of the accident.

It also stated that during Angela Gray’s trial in August 2015, Christian Mayberry testified, stating that Angela Gray had provided alcohol to the minors present. He also said that he heard Joey Gray telling others after the accident, “We have to hurry up and get out of here.”

The trial was declared a mistrial.

Joey Gray was released on a $2,500 bond.
