A 26-year-old Fayetteville man accused of shooting his father to death near Elkins on Wednesday has been booked into jail following treatment at a local hospital, officials said.
Samuel Hill of 1693 S. Morningside Drive was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 11:11 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 22), according to the Sheriff’s Office website.
Hill faces a capital murder charge and other charges in the shooting death of his father Allen Hill, 61. Sam Hill is set to appear before a magistrate judge at the detention center in Fayetteville on Monday (Aug. 25).
Sam Hill shot and killed his father Wednesday night following an argument and gunfight at 12397 S. Whitehouse Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The younger Hill had beat his wife moments earlier at their Fayetteville home, authorities said.
Using a 9 mm handgun, Hill shot his father at least twice, including in the chest, and was wounded in his hip in return fire from his father, investigators said. After returning to his home in Fayetteville, Hill was arrested without incident and hospitalized at Washington Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
His mother Roberta Hill, 55, escaped out of a window during the shooting and later accidentally shot Cpl. Taylor Reed of the Sheriff’s Office, thinking he was her son in the darkness coming back to hurt her. She was not arrested and may not face charges, although the investigation is ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A representative for the Sheriff’s Office told 5NEWS deputies believe Roberta Hill legitimately feared for her life at the time she shot Reed.

The deputy was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, where his condition was described by emergency crews as critical but stable. His condition has since improved dramatically, authorities said.
Reed, 29, was wearing a bullet-proof vest and holding a long-rifle at the time of the shooting, but the bullet missed the vest and hit him in the armpit area, according to the Sheriff’s Office. His K-9 unit dog, Cody, was not injured, a family member told 5NEWS.
The corporal underwent surgery on Friday.
