Suspects facing capital murder charges in Amir Ellis case

Three suspects involved in the disappearance and death of Hot Springs' Amir Ellis are now facing charges of capital murder.

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark — Three teen suspects who were arrested for the kidnapping of Hot Springs teen Amir Ellis, are now facing charges of capital murder.

Ellis first went missing back in May, and ten days later 18-year-old Nathaniel A. Speed, and 18-year-old Alexia T. Chambers, as well as a juvenile were charged with kidnapping and were held on a million-dollar bond.

After a months-long search, remains were located along Highway 7 North in Garland County. After extensive DNA testing was done at the Arkansas State Crime Lab they were able to confirm that the remains found belonged to Ellis.

Now, Garland County Prosecutor Michelle Lawrence is charging both Speed, Chambers, and the 17-year-old minor (at the time) with capital murder. A hearing was scheduled in February and March for both Speed and Chambers but the court has decided to consolidate all three cases and expect the hearing to be even earlier.
