LEFLORE, Okla. — On the evening of Tuesday, June 18, LeFlore County held its final day of voting for the county sheriff.
The results showed that people decided to keep their current Sheriff, Rodney Derryberry. Three people ran for the sheriff's position: Larry Crossland, Donnie Edwards, and Derryberry.
Derryberry outlasted his challengers with nearly 58 percent of the votes. Crossland came in second with 28 percent of the votes, and Donnie Edwards took away 13 percent. Derryberry led the entire night over his two challengers.
Derryberry said he is excited to continue his duties in LeFlore County. 5NEWS met with him moments after winning, and he told us that he will continue to work hard to keep LeFlore County as safe as possible.

“I'm humbled and thankful for everyone that voted for me to stay in this office and perform the duties that we do because we're there to serve and protect and our people out there represent us too. So in saying that, I'll just be very proud of this one,” said the Sheriff.
Sheriff Derryberry was first elected in 2020. He says in the last four years, he's been working to bring more resource officers to the county's schools and improve the jail.
"We were able to get the funding and bring a company over that actually cooks for the inmates and everything, and they can choose and pick from a menu, [including] different meals, and even on holidays, or if they have a religious preference," Derryberry said. "We also brought in a medical company in the last nine months that provides, you know, 24-hour medical care and a doctor on call for them and everything. That does cost a lot of money."
Sheriff Derryberry will continue his run as the LeFlore County Sheriff until at least 2028.
