SPRINGDALE, Ark — Junior guard Courtland Muldrew has been putting on a show recently at Springdale Har-Ber High School. Last week against the number one team in the state, Muldrow had his greatest show thus far, scoring 37 points.
“My teammates put me in a great position. My coaches, they put me in a great position, they trust me. So it's really just them putting that trust in me to give me the confidence in myself to go out there and do what I can do,” Muldrew said.
Muldrew is not just a one-hit wonder—he’s averaging nearly 29 points per game on the season. His coach accredits Muldrew's success to his ability to excel anywhere on the court.
“He’s just one of those guys who can score baskets, you know, it's hard to find a guard or players that can score at all different angles. He can shoot left hand, and go right. He can step back. He can shoot jumpers off one foot things. As a coach, you don't really teach, you don't go over that. And he can manufacture baskets,” coach Tommy Deffebaugh said.
You would think that with all this early success that Muldrew has been a part of the Wildcat program for years, but this is just his first season with the team. In fact, he fanned the flames of a rivalry by trading in Springdale High School's red and black for the Wildcat's two blues.
“Last year I was at the rival school so they’re on me a lot but ... since I got here, everyone's been very supportive. I think everyone treats me very well. But the support systems are great. I’m glad that I came here.” Muldrew said.
Muldrew has been drawing a lot of interest from college coaches around the country including two Power Five offers already from Missouri and Ole Miss. With much more in store for Muldrew's high school career, his coach has a message for all the potential callers.
"I tell them they better get in line. They better start making headway with him and start making some contact with him. He's that good. I think any college, any university, or institution that's fortunate for getting him will be blessed,” Deffebaugh said.
With the scouts eyes on Muldrew, he says his sights are set on the ultimate prize: Bringing home a state title in March.
